Western Tussock Caterpillar
I was at a garage sale around the corner yesterday when a little boy about four years old showed me a caterpillar he found in the grass. It turned out that there was an invasion of these things on the street tree. It was a whole education in their various stages of development: eggs, caterpillars, cocoons, and one moth, all in the same place. After I'd been there for about fifteen minutes looking at these things from all angles, the boy looked up at me and said, "Wow, you're really into this, aren't you?" I went back today and took more photos.
