Still Life With Rubber Bands

When I was a child I was fascinated with the deconstruction of old golf balls.   After removing the dimpled white cover, there was a seemingly endless tightly packed string of rubber bands, and then, at the center, a tiny very bouncy ball.  How it all got into that compact little package is still a mystery.
