Paying Attention

Erigeron, also known as fleabane or Santa Barbara daisy, has numerous tiny pink and white flowers which are food for these unknown moth larvae.  All I know is that the heartshaped pattern on the creature's back has become darker and more defined since yesterday.  I see all this by sitting down near the plant and going into soft focus: scanning for movement, color and shape until something pops out.  And dang if it doesn't work--I've turned into a person who can spot a worm that's a half inch long on a flower that's smaller than a nickel!
