We were buying peaches at the farmers' market, and next to the juicy smell of ripe fruit was the sweetness of these Asian lilies. The next stand was pure strawberry, and the organic coffee folks were brewing in the adjoining aisle. We had already passed the rotisserie chicken truck, and the handmade herbal soaps, the fragrant curries and the fresh bread. And I haven't even mentioned color--a further dizzying delightful assault that almost leaves me too full to sample the plums that have just ripened on our own tree.
