Street Ornaments

The winter trees are decorated for the holidays:  a neighbor's young persimmon is a spray of delicate branches, holding one perfect orange fruit against the gray storm sky.  Our own gnarled and bony fig tree lifts its thin sparkling black fingers, offering the last of the yellow-green figs. And the liquidambar is always dressed for a party with astonishing leaves and bright spiky jewelry.
