Bad Science
In my eagerness to identify our butterflies, I made a diletante's error: I've been excitedly calling them Black Swallowtails, when they are more likely Anise Swallowtails (Papilio zelicaon). Black swallowtails are, well, black. Here is the most recent arrival, newly emerged from the chrysalis. And here is a sentence that confounds me: Anise swallowtails have a black body with yellow stripes, rather than a yellow body with black stripes... So it could be an Oregon swallowtail I suppose, but we are not in Oregon. Or Kansas.
