One of the joys of weeding is discovering everything in the garden that has been covered up. Crawling around on the ground gives me a different perspective. So many buds pushing up through the dirt, bulbs awakening, seeds sprouting. Today we found a salamander in a pile of old redwood boards; it was a big strange wet-looking thing, and although I made a nice portrait of it, I found it too disturbing to post. It had fingers.
